Hiding the Menu Bar and Dock in Any App the Leopard way

August 5, 2009 Leave a comment

Have you ever needed all the space you could get on a small screen? You might’ve thought that every time I work with this app, the menu bar and Dock should hide. Well, now it’s possible.

Just navigate to the app you want to apply this on and right-click it. Choose “Show Package Contents” and go into the Contents folder. There should be an info.plist file. But before you open up the file, right-click it and choose “Get Info” and scroll all the way to the bottom. Under Sharing and Permissions, make sure “admin” is able to Read & Write, or else you cannot save the file. Open it up in your preferred editor, although it is recommended you use Apple’s Property List Editor or TextWrangler.

If you are not using the Property List Editor, enter the following code:

<key>LSUIPresentationMode</key>
	<integer>4</integer>

If you are using the Property List Editor enter the following entry highlighted in the screenshot:

Then, save the file and restart your application. Now you should have all the space you need!
